In the mid 1960s the Mother began to work with Huta whom she had asked to paint images descriptive of some passages from Savitri. In 1966, it was decided that a slideshow of the paintings would be presented with the Mother's recitations of the passages and music. The Mother asked Sunil to do the music. Huta recorded the Mother reading the selected passages and then passed the recordings along to Sunil to be mixed with the music. By the end of 1967 the Mother had read all of the passages. Sunil created the music for the first book of Savitri with the slideshow presentation in mind. However by early 1971, Sunil knew that it would take him many, many years to finish the work whereas Huta had gone much faster with the paintings. So Huta created a slide show using selections from Mother's own organ music and Sunil continued to compose music for the Savitri recitations at his own pace. From the first Cantos of Savitri, his music had already started to get longer for each piece. After Book I when he no longer had the slideshow in mind, each passage became much longer as he felt free to describe in music different movements suggested by the words of the passage. He continued to compose and record music for the Savitri recitations until his passing in 1998. The last music recorded was for Book 10 Canto 4. As much as we can determine of the history of the recording sessions and who participated in the various recordings, is described in the section on The Musicians. There is another section on The Studio, which describes what instruments were used in various recordings, etc. .....
